Mapping student mobility in Europe

The European Commission has a treasure trove of data on student and teacher mobility in Europe. A recent study indicates that student mobility is high in Europe, relative to global trends, and that the countries included in the study have seen dramatic growth in international enrolments from 1998/99 to 2006/07. The study covered 32 European countries, namely the EU member states, Turkey, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. One of the report's most notable findings is that this growth--roughly 50% over the eight-year period--has largely been fueled by enrolments from outside of Europe. By 20067/07, approximately 58% of the international students in the region were non-Europeans. The complete study report, along with several related studies and data sets, can be found on the European Commission website. Source: European Commission
